Rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) is a viral disease characterised by high morbidity and mortality. Most strains are so virulent that infected rabbits typically die without exhibiting RHD clinical signs.

The simple answer to this question is yes, maternal immunity based on the transfer of IgG from female rabbits to their offspring protects them against rabbit haemorrhagic disease. However, other questions may then come up, such as how long this protection lasts or by what means these antibodies are transmitted.

Rarely is it possible to have such a headline, but the fact is that both yeast and the new recombinant rabbit haemorrhagic disease vaccine are in some way connected.

The RHD virus is highly resistant in the environment, so infection in pet rabbits is also possible.

Since its appearance in 2010, RHDV2 has been able to expand the target species and cause the disease in other leporids in addition to the rabbit.

It is one of the main viral diseases that affect the rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). It is characterized by acute, lethal and highly contagious hepatitis.
